Hometown

When life gets you down, and all your troubles surround you, just make up your own
Hometown
And make up some friends who will follow you where you may go
Hometown
Just listen to the wind in the fields where you once ran in glee
Make whatever you want, it's your own safe and happy city
Better than home . . .
Your life is much lighter, there
You can forget all your troubles, and make up new cares, make a
Hometown
Everyone knows you, there
Hometown
And can be glad you're there,
Hometown,
Custom-created for you . . .

Author's Notes

I was making fun of myself with this one, really, and my tendency to detach from reality.  I think I was thinking of . . . well, pretty much what the writers thought, only not so much taking a load off and forgetting your troubles, but rather deluding one's self into thinking that they never had problems in the first place.  There are a number of places that I could have gotten inspiration from--perhaps partly from the way that Cloud views of his own past, and that night at the well and all; perhaps from this one field not far from my house; perhaps even from a fairy tale, or "family programming" from when I was growing up.

I dunno . . . too much I don't know to explain.
