Too Much The Same

Separated, dragged out into the sand
Shotguns aimed at our heads
Because we are different?
Or because we are too much the same?

Why do you fear us?
Do you fear our appearance?
Or are you afraid of the truth--
That we're human, too?

I don't know who first came up with this,
And I don't know if I can finish it--
But I'll try.
You're wrong. You're absurd.

It doesn't matter what your father did
I don't care where you came from.
We're here, and we're human.
We are the same.

I don't care if you say otherwise,
For I know in my heart it is true.

Author's Note:

Eh, I don't like the idea of racism and segregation and all that, and while I don't really have to face it that often, well . . . I'm beginning to realize it exists . . . this is basically due to that . . .
