I fail to see what the big deal is with insisting that there is a major
difference between the various races is. Then again, I'm overly idealistic. I really think that race should be held as about as important as hair or eye color. Saying that someone is white should hold about the same importance as saying that they're
blonde.
I'm really rather against people getting hired or fired, persecuted or rewarded, for their
race, whether this is in a positive or negative way. I really don't like the fact that
some people are trying to get money because their forefathers were slaves
(something I heard of recently). There are no legal slave holders in America, nor are there any legal slaves. Why should today's
people be rewarded for the things they have not suffered? It seems . . . just wrong to me. You should only be accredited for your own accomplishments and failures, and not
the ones of others.
That's one of the reasons I really think that viewing anyone as better or worse
due to their race is screwy, I guess.
There isn't a whole lot of anti-anything discrimination where I am; then again, I'm in a fairly good place. Yes, most of my friends are white. There's no reason for this; it's just because these are the people that I've managed to meet, and like the attitude of. Yes, racial slurs are thrown around in my school, and stuff, but I really don't think anyone means anything by them, judging by the inflection. Perhaps this lack of intolerance is the reason I find the
hire/fire-people-of-a-certain-race policies of some to be so unacceptable. It boils my blood, and things like that . . .
. . . I have yet to understand why we just can't consider ourselves to be human and move on.
Then again, I guess I'm just overly idealistic. :\
Author's Note:
I was just feeling kind of at-odds because I'd heard that there were people trying to get money for stuff their ancestors were inflicted . . . it just seemed really cheap to me. I certainly hope I haven't offended anyone; it certainly wasn't my intent . . .
